ETC 2009 Volunteer Day Experience: Giving Back to New Orleans

Volunteering offers the ultimate experiential component to travel and allows travelers the opportunity to give back to the people and places they visit. Each year the Educational Travel Conference organizes a Volunteer Day to benefit its host city. On February 18th, 40 ETC 2009 delegates made a financial donation to OnSite Relief and volunteered to restore the homes of two Ninth Ward families. Onsite Relief is a small non-profit organization founded by Hurricane Katrina volunteers. PHOTOS by Carrie McDougall, Cultural Crossroads.

Diversity Programming

Often we are asked to share our success stories with one another, and I am as eager as the next person to learn from the “winners.” But not every great idea turns out to be a winner and sometimes it is the relative “loser” from which we can learn just as much.

Dubai Dreams

Driving in from the airport at 4 a.m., my first impression was amazement at the late-night vibrancy of Dubai. I had expected a modern city, but clearly something more was going on.
